The Wartenberg wheel, also known as Wartenberg neurowheel was initially used in medicine to test neurological skin responses. These days, it is more commonly used in sexual play. Very lightly running the wheel over areas of skin, such as the sides of the torso, the thighs, the upper arms, the inner hands, and sexual zones such as the breasts, scrotum or glans can have an interesting effect. In BDSM, it can be used more firmly.
A similar instrument, called the pounce wheel is used in the clothing business to transfer the shapes of cloth to make paper patterns.
