The Prince Albert piercing is probably the most common male genital piercing. This piercing is punched from inside the urethra to the underside of the penis, generally in the frenulum area, about 1/4 to 1/2-inch (6 – 12mm) from the opening. Both males and females say the Prince Albert piercing can enhance intercourse. It does have the unfortunate effect of making urination more messy. The wearer of a Prince Albert generally has to sit down to pee.

Men can also get a reverse PA in which the piercing is placed from inside the urethra to the top of the glans. These piercings are almost always performed without anesthesia.
Some men will work on stretching their Prince Albert piercing so that the diameter of the ring they wear can become quite large. Having a hole that accommodates a quarter-inch (6mm) diameter piercing is not uncommon.

Women have a similar but much less common piercing called the Princess Albertina.
